Meet Jose Caram, a Cancun resident that lived with Coco, a female chimpanzee, for over two decades. According to Jose, he acquired Coco in the States sometime in the early '90s and she immediately "accepted" him. The pair were besties for over twenty years until Sara Rincon Gallardo, an animal rights activist, started claiming there was something sexual between Jose and his pet. Also, that Jose was treating Coco too much like a human. Sara eventually called the cops on Jose and now Coco has been placed in a shelter. Jose was left companionless and *wipes tear* sad.
Although Coco is "very affectionate," Jose claims nothing sexual ever happened between then. Jose raised Coco ever since she was a cute little monkey:

Primer Impacto asked Sara why she called the cops on Jose and this is what she said:
"The chimpanzee was treated like human being; it smoked, drank, hung out at the beach, and had a... 'relationship' with it's handler."
Sara never witnessed it herself, but she's sure hanky-monkey-panky happened between Jose and Coco. Sara is sure of it because Coco started fondling other men "up there" [their person penis] when she was being taken away from Jose. Sara also justifies her tattletaling by claiming that Jose used to exploit Coco by forcing her to take pictures with tourists for money.
Jose's neighbors, however, paint a less malevolent picture Jose and praise his treatment of Coco:
"She [Coco] had her lettuces, apples, grapes, was bathed with shampoo, had her nails done, pedicures, her own TV -- one where she'd watch El Chavo Del Ocho while she munched on carrots."
If Jose's neighbors are to be believed, Coco was set! (All I get to munch on while I watch Chavo are my own nails.)
The story of Jose and Coco is one of the strangest stories I've ever seen on Primer Impacto; it's odd but also very compelling. What do Guanabee readers think? Who's side are you on? Do you believe Jose didn't rape Coco? Is he an evil man for domesticating a wild animal and treating it like a princess? Are you pissed at Sara for whistleblowing? Or did she do the right thing?

The thing with monkeys, is that they're never really domesticated. So, I think it was a dick move by Sara, but I also think it was probably the best move for the other people around the monkey.
ReplyYes, probs better for the monkey. But poor Jose!
