Six young undocumented immigrants were arrested in Georgia yesterday when they sat in the intersection outside the state capitol in protest of the Illegal Immigrant and Enforcement Act of 2011, new state legislation that bans them from being accepted at some of Georgia's better colleges. Their demonstration makes them the latest undocumented immigrants to come out publicly in what seems to be a growing trend.
Five of the the six protesters are students or recent graduates of Pebblebrook High School in Cobb County, Georgia and three of them are minors. In the above video the students, dressed in caps and gowns, are arrested while a crowd chants, "Unafraid, undocumented."
According to the South Cobb Patch, the three minors were released from county jail last night while the three adults remain in custody at Fulton County Jail. The six are Nataly Ibarra, Leeidy Solis and Rolando Zenteno, all 16, Dulce Guerrero and Jessica Vasquez, both 18, and 24-year-old Felipe Baeza from New York who trained with them over the past two days for Tuesday's event.
The protesters are part of a movement called The Dream Is Coming whose website says:
[W]e are compelled by our frustration and the fierce urgency of our dreams to act as agents of our destinies and be the catalysts for a future in which we are empowered, mobilized, and living with the dignity we deserve. We are a group of undocumented youth who have worked for years on a path to legalization. We are at a point in our movement where radical action has become necessary for ourselves and our communities.
The site is also asking for donations to help raise the $3,600 they need to bail the three adults still in custody out of jail.

Unfortunately, the streaming has been disabled for that account. I wonder why... I wish I could switch careers and let the big shots see what it's like to be an immigrant student. I'm sure they won't feel like arresting anyone after spending a couple of days in prison.
