Here's how the pitch for Gloria Trevi's new video "Me Rio De Ti" must have gone:
Video director: "OK Gloria, check this out: you walk in into a room full of passed out, drunk teenagers and you don't kick them out — you, bare with me, restart the party! Your 43-year-old ass is a 'cool mom,' not a boring responsible one. Get it?!? Yeah! Also, you're gonna be dressed like a slutty 16-year-old hoodrat. So what do you think?"
Gloria: me encanta!

Her and Lucero need to get real
ReplyFunny, I was talking about Gloria Trevi with a friend today. You're right; the first reaction most people will probably have to this video is exactly what you described: why is Gloria (a 43-year-old woman) partying with teenagers? However, we forget that Gloria Trevi has done things--oh my, has she done things--that would put "cool moms" and "reckless teenagers" to shame. Some of these "things" were clearly illegal, but that's another story. Anyway, IMO, this video is another example of the total failure that is the Mexican entertainment industry. Here they have a woman with tremendous potential. She has proven that she can be intensely political with her lyrics and music. Her strong and wild sexuality are a force that is rarely seen in the Mexican Entertainment Industry. But, of course, the industry doesn't know how to promote Gloria. And what they're doing to Lucero is unacceptable. Let's talk about that later. My dream is that one day John Waters will travel to Mexico City, looking for Gloria. And when he finds her, he'll tell her, "come with me, dear Gloria Trevi. I'm taking you to Baltimore to make my last film. It will be filthy, outrages, and lovely. Let's do it for Devine!"
ReplyOMG, you have THE BEST dreams and observations. Que dios te escuche!
